Gentoo: Bitlbee is sweet!

I recently moved from using pidgin to using bitlbee (net-im/bitlbee). Bitlebee is sweet because it allows me to access “traditional IM” via irssi in a screen session from anywhere that I am via my co-located server. Of course, you can use any irc client that you are familiar with. As more and more of my friends move away from traditional IM, I don’t feel a need to pay as much attention to the various networks. So, it can stay off my desktop without worries. Do you use bitbee? Any fun tips?

I’m using bitlbeed since a long time and I like it.

I would suggest you to use the bitlbee_tab_completion [1] script. As all of bitlbeed irssi scripts I found online it’s pretty old, but it retrives the command from bitlbeed server, so it is always up to date.

Here [2] you can find many other scripts, most of them useless, like typing notification :)

If you happen to be paranoid(who isn’t :p), either use irssi-otr or grab an otr-branch of bitlbee.
